Something has been discovered. And nobody is quite sure what it is.
It looks strangely familiar… yet unmistakably alien. Covered in mysterious symbols and seemingly impossible mechanical parts, Project O.C.T.O.P.U.S. appears to be some kind of extraterrestrial device disguised as a very familiar Earth creature.
This human-powered kinetic octopus comes to life when you turn the cranks—eight of them, to be exact. Each crank activates a different tentacle, bringing this bizarre mechanical beast closer and closer to full activation.
Created with an Honorarium art grant from Burning Man in 2026, Project O.C.T.O.P.U.S. invites you to investigate, decode its strange alien language, and figure out exactly what the hell you’ve discovered.
But there’s a secret.
When all eight tentacles are activated… something magical happens.
Turn the cranks. Decode the mystery. Activate the octopus.
